[REVIEW] These Hearts – Forever Ended Yesterday
These Hearts
Forever Came Yesterday
Victory Records
Release:June 21st, 2011
The North Dakota quintet, These Hearts, may not be familiar to most, but they will surely gain plenty of fans from the screamo/post-hardcore genre this summer. Craig Owens produced the record and it is quite easy to see his influence in the final product. The music is very similar to older Chiodos songs, where the music takes quick turns from high pitch singing to spastic screams and breakdowns out of nowhere. This band will work perfectly for the ADD youth of America.
“Apology Rejected” kicks off the album and is great example of what you will find throughout the disc. Fans of bands such as Attack Attack! will eat this up, fans of August Burns Red probably wont. Within the first 7 seconds, the same vocalist goes from a high note voice that would work for a pop song to a screeching yelp that sounds like it would do damage to his throat.
Shouted gang vocals lead the band into a very large sounding breakdown, which opens up “Romans 15”. These young kids show that they have a pretty good hold on their instruments on this track. There are some pretty cool intricate guitar riffs layered in the background behind the deep growls. The song leads into an enjoyable little interlude instrumental, which flows seamlessly into the next song.
The rest of the album follows along in the same formula that was found in the first half of the release, songs that balance between extremely high vocals and deep roars. These Hearts definitely give you both sides of the vocal spectrum. Although this is not the most complex music you will ever hear, there are plenty of kids who will enjoy it. This band will fit right into the current scene found on the Vans Warped Tour, an event I’m sure they will be invited to play sooner than later.
