The five piece band from Kingsport,Tennessee. The band formed in 2007 after several lineup changes they got their final changes a year later. The boys of SYG have been constantly touring like any other band in hopes to finally make it and get some much needed attention. Stand Your Ground you got my attention for sure. What caught my attention about this band is that it had a triumphant mix of First Blood and The Ghost Inside to it. Stand Your Ground is not a generic “chugcore band” they have a lot of superb guitar work going on in the background and unless you give it a solid listen you will miss it. The one thing I did appreciate about this is that it ahs an amazing blend of metal and hardcore that I’m sure if you’re a fan of either genre you will dig it, Will Ford the vocalist definitely takes charge and shows his conviction in the words the come out of his mouth with such vengeance that you would find from a The Ghost Inside, Create Avoid, or Johnny Truant record. “Despondenseas” is such a fast paced record but not without its hidden gems such as “Dispatch” with it slow mellow tempo you would think you were listening to an Isis or Opeth, who would’ve guessed that hardcore could even endeavor in a track like this. My favorite track off the whole record is “An Angry Sea” this song was so upbeat and melodic that you would think that you were listening to different band, it has pace different from the two stepping, circle mosh songs as “Onwards and Downwards” which is also a great track, because it has the rough edge sound of classic hardcore with a new age twist to it that you would hear from a hardcore band of earlier years Verse. I highly recommend giving this record a shot if you’re a fan of The Ghost Inside, Verse, Create Avoid, It Prevails, or More Than Life. Give this band play you wont regret it.
