[REVIEW] Living With Lions – Holy Shit

(Yes we know, this is review is a little late but, here it is in it’s full form nonetheless. Enjoy! -TheInterlude.com Team)

Living With Lions’ new album, Holy Shit, is the perfect reason to second guess everything you thought you knew about pop punk.

The first song off of Holy Shit is titled, “Pieces.” This song is a great album opener because it tells a story regarding the time between the band’s last record, Make Your Mark, and this one. The song has a very mature, sobering vibe to it, giving you a glimpse of what is in store for the next thirty-five minutes and eight seconds!

Next up, “Regret Song.” I’m sure everyone can relate to this song. Despite the track’s title, this song steps it up a notch, rhythm-wise. We finally get our first glimpse of post-MYM Living With Lions! The chorus, “I built you up so high, your head was in the clouds. Too bad you didn’t look down. I built you up, you watch me fall. You said you regret this all. I regret this too, I regret ever knowing you” will echo in your head after this song ends.

Now to my favorite part of writing reviews, MY FAVORITE SONG, of which would hands down be, “Honesty, Honestly.” This is honestly (Insert delicious irony here) the catchiest song I have heard in a LONG time. It has everything you want in a pop punk song, sing-a-long choruses, catchy hooks and riffs, and relatable lyrics. Christmas come early?! I think so. (You can watch the music video for “Honesty, Honestly” by clicking here!)

My other favorite song would definitely be “Wake Up.” This song is another example of LWL’s “sobering effect.” Whoever wrote the lyrics for this song really understands human nature and can see the bigger picture. If you’re looking for a mature, song to help sort through the bullshit, throw this one in your iTunes playlist (Does anyone still use those?)

The final song on this fabulous record is titled, “When We Were Young.” This song clearly is about the wonders and joys of being a kid again; making new friends, creating your own games and being able to keep yourself pre-occupied. Man do I LOVE this cd! Out of all ten songs, I cannot think of a better song to end the record on. Oh yeah, and there’s a hilarious audio track that includes a drunken ramble. It’s great!

It has truly been an honor reviewing this album. In today’s music industry, you will be hard-pressed to find music that encompasses actual musicianship and genuinity. Living With Lions have both and clearly are doing something right, even though I know to them, they are simply writing songs that feel right and are fun to play. My one bugaboo on this cd would be the mispronunciation of the word “nuclear” as “new-que-lour.” I don’t know why so many people have a hard time saying the word correctly. Then again, I’m sure having a president for four years that couldn’t do it either. Who knows! Other than Stu Ross’s one slip up in that respect, Holy Shit is flawless in my opinion.

This is usually the part where I would say “Be sure to pick up so and so’s new album in stores everywhere!” Unfortunately, Holy Shit has been recalled because the album title offended uptight Christians. Whoops, I said it!
