[REVIEW] For All Those Sleeping – Cross Your Fingers
For All Those Sleeping’s new debut album, Cross Your Fingers is a big wake up call for an otherwise watered-down music scene. This record delivers a well-blended mix of pop, and hardcore and is very worthy of your attention.
Cross Your Fingers opens with “Outbreak For Heartache,” which serves as a very powerful opening track. It sets the tone for the entire album with catchy lyrics, heavy guitars, and impressive vocals from lead singer Mike Champa.
With songs like “Never leave Northfield” and “I Hate To See You Go,” it is quite clear that the band has truly found their sound. Both tracks really show how the band is able to effectively construct (very well I might add) meaningful songs that are wholehearted and full of life. The chorus in “Run Away” really demonstrates the aforementioned with lyrics like “…And don’t say that we will always have tomorrow / because we’re only young and in love once in our lives / Please don’t wait, this is our chance to escape / Run Away.”
The last track “If I Wanted Your Two Cents I’d Rob You” brings the debut record to an end with a well written breakdown, accompanied by Ethan Trekell’s stand-out drumming that will leave you wanting more.
Overall, the cd features memorable melodies, crushing breakdowns, and poppy sections where you will suddenly be bobbing your head. It also lays out a solid path for a very promising beginning for the band, who has recently signed to Fearless Records. If you enjoy heavy guitar riffs, heartfelt singing and music that incorporates different styles, then this release is absolutely for you. Be sure to pick up the cd exclusively at your local Hot Topic outlet and online at Shockhound.com or iTunes on July 20th!
