Self-Titled Album

WHAT?! Cute Is What We Aim For broke up? NOOOOO! Okay, I’m not too broken hearted. Rotation was a decent album, and Blood Rush was mediocre. Shaant never seemed like a douche to me, though a lot of people seem to think he is/was. He messaged me on myspace once thanking me for my kind words on some poetry he had been working on. Seems like a nice enough guy. It’s because of this gesture that I will refrain from saying something like “I’m so relieved to hear a project arise from the ashes of Cute that doesn’t have the completely annoying and whiny vocals that plagued Cute’s music.”
Okay, enough of that. Nocturnal Me is Dave Melillo on lead vocals and bass (mmm…Dave Melillo), Jeff Czum on guitar (also from Cute), and Mikey Lasaponara (started drumming in Cute until they broke up). For all for all of you fanboys and fangirls out there looking for your Cute/Dave fix…it’s right here. The EP sounds like the direction that the last Cute album wanted to go, but it has the always fantastic song writing ability that Melillo has presented.
The first single and first track “Once Bitten” is a song about vampire love, simply put. Melillo sings “I don’t even mind being dead for the rest of my life/it means you by my side”, and 13 year old girls everywhere are wetting themselves as they think about Edward Cullen. “This Isn’t Love” and “Woulda Coulda” both showcase the creativity behind Czum’s guitar ability, helping him stray away from the dime a dozen powerchords that kept Cute’s songs from really going anywhere interesting.
The final song “Cougarz” (epic use of the letter “z”) keeps the dark themed lyrics of love and the complications of love as Melillo vocally charges through the verses into the cavity inducing chorus. As the bridge hits, we hear Melillo’s range effortlessly utilized.
While the EP is a very strong debut, it’s not without it’s weaknesses. Lasaponara can play the drums, and hold down a song, but he’s never really showcased anywhere. His ability as a drummer is not brought to it’s full potential. It’s not emotionless like some bands, but it doesn’t have much character either.
Hopefully this EP will tide over the fans that are waiting for a new Dave album, and will fulfill the wishes of the people who were saddened by the untimely demise of Cute, but I hope that this isn’t the sole purpose of the project, This group has a lot of potential and they seem to work very well together. Sorry Shaant, this EP proves that the break up was probably for the best.

Interesting blog post. Some tips i would like to add is that computer system memory ought to be purchased but if your computer can no longer cope with that which you do by using it. One can install two random access memory boards having 1GB each, as an example, but not certainly one of 1GB and one of 2GB. One should check the company’s documentation for the PC to make sure what type of ram is required.
