From Indian Lakes – The Man With Wooden Legs

From Indian Lakes

The Man With Wooden Legs

Unsigned

The vocals recorded in each track are completely balanced with the light guitar strums and simple drumming. What makes this band not so simple though are the piano mixed in kindly to the interesting guitar strums set here and there.

The album has a very calm style, as you would be used to hearing Anthony Green in Circa Survive; the style is calm yet never seems to bore its listener. Especially Full Of Wonder; from the start, Circa Survive comes to mind. Of course no one can even come close to replicating Green’s voice, but the way the vocals and instrumentals mingle so soundly is unmistakable.

The vocals will peak here and there in each song, in a way that you’re used to the vocals in Enter Shikari being abrupt and strong against the instrumental parts. Although the vocals will peak, the instrumentals will keep up, and glide the song back to a calm state.

The accent you can hear soundly in Enter Shikari’s lead vocalist Roughton “Rou” Reynolds  voice can be greatly compared to that of the vocals in From Indian Lakes. His style in clean vocals sounds distinctly like Enter Shikari’s.

The only song that doesn’t have a distinct sudden up rise in the volume of vocals is I Am Aware.

This album is overall sound and beautiful, and will be something new for those of you who enjoy Enter Shikari and Circa Survive.

The lyrics are strongly poetic as he compares his lover’s whispers in his ear to the rush of the ocean’s waves. He will raise his voice to scream his flaws and complaints. The lyrics are upright and flat out justifiable for the writer. As you listen to his words, you can feel everything he is going through, and through his abrupt screams to specific parts in the song, you can listen to his emotions change.

The symbolism of countless objects mentions in each song and just the descriptions alone of them are so close to the way Green describes many things in his songs for Circa Survive and Saosin.

This album is absolutely uplifting. For anyone in a down mood, anyone who has suffered from any amount of pain or anyone who is in any kind of difficult situation lately.. this album will lift you to think more positively and give a whole new insight on things.

This album can even become somewhat country-like to be honest, but only as far as the instruments go, and the vocals bring it back down to a calm piece. Away! Even reminds me of Coldplay in a way. The melody and vocals are much like Coldplay’s.

There is much reference to ships. Must have something to do with lakes, haha. Much one on one confessing is found in the lyrics… so beautiful and pure. You can feel how connected the artist is to life on the seas and being calm and collected. So if you’d been feeling calm and need some tunes to accent your emotions lately, this is the new album for you to be listening to. Or even if you’re feeling quite scrambled lately and need something else besides Jack Johnson, John Mayer and Coldplay to keep your psych down to earth, I would recommend listening to this album as I am. I was merely asked to review this album upon request, and only thank the person who asked me to do so being as I now have another favorite album to listen to for hours on end this coming spring and summer.

These lyrics are unforgettable and entirely thoughtful. This man dreams largely of the world around him, but not only speaks calmly, but gets loud in spaces you know he is so happy to speak of. He’ll speak of good times and strangely memorable times. This album is strangely nostalgic and easy to get addicted to. If you’re not custom to easy listening, give the album more than one listen to and I guarantee you will come to like it to some degree, whether or favorite just two songs or end up having the whole album on repeat as I will be doing.

Just listen to this album while out on the ocean or on the beach… you will not be able to stop this album from playing. This is not an understatement.
