[REVIEW] Bayside – Killing Time
February 9th, 2011
Hometown heroes Bayside are finally back with a fresh label and a RE-freshed and hate filled release. Let’s face it, many of us long-time followers weren’t incredibly impressed with Shudder, but don’t fret. Bayside is back with all the old emotions of The Walking Wounded and their Self-Titled, yet with the intricacy of Shudder.
The album opens up with the first single and incredibly catchy “Already Gone”. The song gives you insight to most of the rest of the album showing that vocalist/lyricist Anthony Raneri has since been through hell and back and lays his innermost thoughts out for us to revel in.
The third track “Mona Lisa” takes a back seat to the driving rhythms of the first two tracks, but shows us just how much all of Bayside has evolved as musicians with one of the trademark solo’s the fans have all come to love, and perfectly timed key changes to bring you through the time line of the story in the song.
The fourth is a laid back song with a fun and very uniting chorus that is inlaid with vocal harmonies that you can only fine tune with a decade under your belt. The song is fueled by the bond that you develop with your adopted family of a band, explaining that no matter what happens, you’ll always have each others back.
“Seeing Sound” is a perfect example of what the Music Industry will do to you over time, the vibe is reminiscent of Shudder but fits perfect with the rest of the album
The album from front-to-back is exactly what you would expect from Bayside over all of the years and their discography, an excellent album with bits of the old thrown in to keep the old fans happy, and new hooks and grounds previously not explored by the band to drag in the disbelievers.
Make sure to grab Killing Time when it drops on February 22nd either at your local stores, or pre-order it NOW on iTunes to receive the iTunes bonus track (11. Don’t Come Easy) and the Pre-Order Bonus Track (12. Monsters)!
